Roger Rabbit

As an example we watched the 'Roger Tabbit & Baby Herman' scene and the use of principles use is fantastic, as its a cartoon the boundaries are endless.




alot of satisfying examples of anticipation for example when the baby is trying to escape the cot and its bum wont allow it the anticipation grows until finally it throws him out.
also overlapping action is used when Roger is trying to run and his legs are moving and the carpet is folding over.
The staging is perfect as every action the baby does you know its set up for the rabbit such as the rolling pin, the cooker opening, the soap falling from the sink and the actions that lead the knives to go flying towards Roger, its all deliberate but so so effective and enjoyable.
But what makes it for me is the use of squash and stretch its everywhere and it enhances the cartoon humour wise, for example when all the pots and pans fall on Rogers head and when he collides wothe the ironing board it amazing the use of principles to make this piece come alive.

12 principles of animation

We learned about the 12 principles of animation, for me it was better to watch them in action rather than read about them so i found a video on vimeo that shows examples of them and i understood the actions alot more clearer.

slow motion slap

After finding a couple of examples of slaps i thought about the action of the object that would be slapping, for example a hand.
i found a slow motion video that shows the action of the hand on impact and the follow through action, previous i had thought how to act out this action on my piece and this is exacally how i imagined it to look.
but not only has this example helped with the slapping object but with the being slapped. the reaction of the onject and the shape it makes on point of impact.

Face slaps example

i browed through alot of clips but thought this one showed a variety of different slaps, happy slaps, hard slaps (some are quite uncalled for), surprise slaps, bitch slaps, all different kinds and its so funny to watch! not only to the face though because many people would relate slapping just to face but it shows chest slaps, back slaps, head slaps and many others.

Fish Slap example

i was looking on YouTube for examples of slaps and i found this, i found it so hilarious, a perfect example of real life humour. when i chosen slap i didnt think about the funny side to it but i guess i ca use this to my advantage with the research and have fun doing it.

Kinetic Verb Project

For this project we each had to pick a kinetic verb, once we had we had to animate that word with its meaning, for example my word is slap so i need to create an animated piece using the word 'slap' to relate to its meaning but before doing so im researching everything about slap. different types of slap, sounds of slaps, definition of slap.

off the top of my head i noted down every kind of slap i could think of:
Fish slap
Bitch slap
Reality slap
Face slap
Animal slap
Door-Wall-Table slap

with these my starting point i can look further into them and learn more.

my Daniel Eatock work

we were set a task to explore outside to not only find some 'thankyou photos' ourself but be able to realise more often and open our eyes to whats around us, to explore further.
i found an amazing example of a thankyou photo.

like the example i gave i used words aswell as an object to get my meaning, i believe when i thought of this when walking by, finding more was really easy because once i spotted a few more were screaming out at me and by the end i never wanted to stop, not only was i finding amazing catchy photos like this but i was enjoying doing it also.

Daniel Eatock Project examples

We started looking at Daniel Eatock and his 'thankyou photos'
i thought these were so clever how natural scenes can come alive by a catchy title.
what he has done is made a website where anyone who captures these moments can be put in the website.

For example this one is called 'Double Beds' without the title this would be useless but with it you know the meaning, and i like this one because the words explain the picture.

Abstract Expressionism lecture

Jackson Pollock

Abstract expressionism emerged in the 1940's famously in New York where the art world shifted from Europe and was established in America.

Pollock was well known and a big figure in abstract expressionism, he created his style of painting known as 'drip' painting'.

He was always thinking outside the box for new ideas, pushing the boundaries of art. (nothing happens in a vacuum).

“The modern artist is living in a mechanical age and we have a mechanical means of representing objects in nature such as the camera and photograph. The modern artist, it seems to me, is working and expressing an inner world – in other words – expressing the energy, the motion, and other inner forces.” Jackson Pollock quote. Radio interview given in 1950

on many of his paintings he was inspired by American Indian art, with the explosive colours he used on enormous canvas's some would call his work rebellious and unpredictable.
in the 1950's Pollock became the most famous artist in the world, having watched the Jackson Pollock clip of him in action by Hans Namuth I agree to Pollock being rebellious, the style he paints is incredible just large drips of a paint brush but everyone loved his work.
Personally I do not like his work much as i cant relate to it I cant discover the meanings behind his paintings and they do not excite me.

Charles Bukowski

'The man with the beautiful eyes'

I was particularly drawn to this piece I was shown. the illustrations were so simple but yet so effective how it merged with the poem for me it just brought life to the story and from there on the piece had my attention.

The storyline is of 4 children who are obsessed with a strange house which their parents tell them to stay away from, a 30 year old man emerges from the house and the kids portray his as a beautiful natural man, but later they find the house burnt down by their parents, to me the meaning behind that was the parents were jealous and intimidated by the man and because he was different to them they were prejudice towards the man and singled him out within the community.

it seems Bukowski was raising an important point about how society shapes us and how stereotypical it is,
